Gundam - 3d World Creative Challenge Winning Entry

I created this image for the 3D World Creative Challenge #10 - it was the winning entry.
It took around 8 weeks on and off in my spare time - I based the model on a toy I bought, and used my own experience to create the textures.
I used a skylight and two omnis to create the lighting. The skylight had a slightly red tinge to it. One omni was created as the sun the other was used just a smidgen for the bounce-back from the wall.
The background image was taken by me on Gloucester Road in Bristol, UK and the robot was composited in by eye.
I used Photoshop to adjust the levels slightly, and to rough the robot up a little to match the quality of the background plate.
I would like to rig the robot using some proper IK one day, and do some aniamtion with it.
I'm actually looking to leave my current job and move into the games industry so I'd be particularly interested in any crits from people working in that sector - do you think work of this quality could get me a job?

Drugstore - After Edward Hopper

I won a 3D World Forum 'Creative Challenge' with this entry, based on the Edward Hopper painting 'Drugstore'. This and 'Sun in an Empty Room' were my attempts to reinterpret his paintings and make them more realistic. Edward Hopper said "My aim in painting has always been the most exact transcription possible of my most intimate impression of nature." - he also described how he liked to allow his memory to distort a scene to enhance some aspects and hide others. I wanted to try and 'reimagine' his scenes using photoreal techniques in order to bring that impression of reality back closer to actuality, simply to see what would happen. Along with 'Sun in an Empty Room', as my skills progress I want to tackle more Hopper paintings to see where the experiment takes me.

Edward Hopper said "Maybe I am not very human - What I wanted to do was to paint sunlight on the side of a house." - and that sounds to me that he was like a human renderer. Please see my description for 'Drugstore' as to my philosophy of making recreations of Edward Hopper paintings.

I chose this painting because it is my mum's favorite - she thinks it encapsulates him the most, and I agree with her.
